This is another fantastic instalment from Ms Kagawa in the Blood of Eden series. The Eternity Cure is a full on adventure and Allie is a fantastic character. As with all of Ms Kagawa’s books, I love the writing style, so easy to read and addictive and this one is no exception to that rule.

Allie survived her meeting with her blood brother, Jackal and is now having nightmares when she sleeps, but they aren’t true nightmares, they are visions of what Kanin is enduring while in the evil hands of Sarren. Allie can feel the pull of her Sire and after leaving Zeke, she is now determined to find Kanin and rescue him from the torturing hands of Sarren.

Following the pull between them, Allie travels surviving off thugs and baddies that she finds along the way. The pull is taking Allie to Old D.C. and once she gets inside the fences, she doesn’t find Kanin waiting for her, but somebody that she thought she left behind. They form a pact and decide to call a truce to their fighting, wanting to find Kanin together and discover a cure for Rabidism. Allie decides not to trust him, but figures two is better than one when confronting the likes of Sarren.

After a close call with the Rabids in Old D.C., the pair travels back to where it all began, New Covington. Allie is a little apprehensive of returning to where she was born twice and doesn’t really want to go back.

Following protocol and trying to be good vampires, they go to check in with the Prince of New Covington. Finding that things have changed, the Fringe is no longer safe to humans or vampires. It appears a new strain of the virus has been released and is creating a new version of rabids, bleeders. These crazy psychotic humans tear their own flesh and try to eat anything they can catch before dying. Having to go underground, they find a guide through the sewers and into the City to see the Prince.

Allie cannot be sure who to trust anymore, can she really trust the Prince even though they both want the same thing? Finding betrayal in the Prince’s tower and love, Allie doesn’t know what she will do, but the only thing she does know is that a cure must be found to stop the bleeders virus from spreading. With no humans, the vampire race cannot survive either.

Will they find a cure for rabidism or the bleeders? Does one really exist? Can Allie find Kanin and stop Sarren from destroying him for good? Can a vampire have a broken heart? What will the next adventure be for Allie?

I really enjoyed the twists and the unexpected turns along Allie’s journey. She really did mature in this one and learned from some of her mistakes, but the biggest lesson of all is to come. She had so many questions that she hasn’t gotten the answers to; she was a little annoying about her feelings and the indecision, but I still love her. Allie has such an attitude and I love her cheekiness when she tries to talk herself out of situations. I cannot wait to read book 3, The Forever Song that will come out next year (a whole year to wait, aarrrggghh!)

I thoroughly enjoyed The Chosen and it was a fantastic introduction into the world that Sheenah Freitas has created. The creatures, worlds and the history associated are fantastic and I am hooked on this series. The growth that the characters have throughout is great and my attention was held until the end.

The story starts off with Catrina working in a bar, then at the end of her shift, she tells a story to the children of her village. The book is of the story that Catrina is telling of a 17 year old girl, Kaia and her adventure.

Kaia was a typical teenager living in a small village with her Mother. Her Father died early on and Kaia loved helping her Mother to bake Blueberry pies. This one particular day, Kaia went into the forest in search of berries for her Mother. Taking a side trip to a temple, Kaia went to give respect to the Priestesses and Gods that are worshipped. Heading back toward the village, Kaia smells smoke and starts running back to her Mother. She is too late; Kaia’s entire village is burned to the ground. The only survivors are Kaia and Reeze. Reeze takes Kaia back to the temple and they are summoned before the Gods of Earth’s sister planet, Zinc and rescued from the assassins that destroyed their village.

The Gods have given Kaia a quest to find all the treasures of the Gods. Reeze is burdened with the task of protecting Kaia. There is a prophecy that tells of The Chosen that will save the world and bring peace and Kaia is The Chosen.

How can a 17 year old girl be The Chosen and save the world? Will Reeze really protect Kaia from harm or does he have ulterior motives? Reeze seems to be hiding something and Kaia is determined to work out what it is. They find a guide to help them look for the treasures; Catrina is a young girl, but a demi-goddess. They accumulate friends along the way that are only too willing to help bring the prophecy true, but are they honest and trustworthy?

By the end I was hooked and with the twists and unexpected turns, I didn’t know who was a traitor or if Reeze can really be trusted. The Chosen is full of magical creatures from dragons, mermaids/mermen to vampires and elves. Discover with Kaia the full responsibility that she has on her shoulders and watch her grow and make hard decisions regarding the world and the people around her. This is highly enjoyable and I can’t wait to read The Number, book 2.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about Richelle Mead? Man, she is a genius and a magician and is just amazing. The Indigo Spell was just as wonderful as The Golden Lily, if not more so. I loved this book immensely and cannot wait to see what happens in The Fiery Heart. The ending of this book left me OMGing; I just didn’t see what was going to happen. Of course this is a testament to the skills that Ms Mead has.

I have very strong feelings for Sydney and feel extremely sorry for all of her life issues. She is an amazing character and watching her grow and seeing her ideals change with each book has been fantastic.

Sydney Sage is an alchemist, but in The Indigo Spell her whole life is being questioned when she finally tracks down Marcus Finch. Following clues and using her witchy powers, Sydney goes it alone and meets Marcus. Scaring the bejeezus out of everyone, they realise they have the possibility of being on the same team. Sydney now needs to make the biggest decision of her life and work out where her loyalties lie. Everything she has ever known is in question and she is holding onto that last thread until the last second.

After the incident with Adrian, Sydney is avoiding him, but they seem to keep getting thrown together. When Ms Terwilliger asks for Sydney’s help, this is the start of another investigation and more books of spells in the witch world. Ms Terwilliger’s sister is getting into mischief and Sydney is the only one that can help, but Adrian has to help keep Sydney safe. Trying to go undercover, Sydney and Adrian are in search for Veronica and to stop her before she kills any more young witches.

Sydney has to help keep Jill safe, find Veronica, decide if she will join Marcus’s Merry Men and steal surveillance footage from the Alchemists security room. All the while, trying to work out what her feelings for Adrian really are and decide if she can overcome her feelings or say bugger it all and give in to them. Sydney is really surprising me in each book; she seems to be using magic more and more and letting her prejudice slide more and more.

I loved the spirit walks that Adrian and Sydney share, they are my favourite scenes. Adrian is such a sweetheart and I feel so bad for him, he seems to be having such horrible luck with love. This is my favourite Bloodlines book to date and I cannot wait for book four, November cannot come quick enough.

This was a great fantasy read and a wonderful introduction in the Realm world. I was left wanting to read Forsaken (book 2) to find out what Kaitriana got herself into next. I loved Kaitriana and all of her flaws, most of all the way she was trying to modernise her speech and adapt to the little sayings, but never seemed to get them right. Heather Fleener is a fantastic author and I love her writing style, such an easy read with a lot of action and intrigue.

Kaitriana is a witch and the book starts when she is just 4 years old. There is a war between the Light and Dark and Kaitriana is aligned with the Light. After a battle Lorcan, the Warrior of Light, a vampire, is heading home and follows two Dark soldiers to see what they’re up to. They have discovered a camp site with parents and a child. He rescues them from the Dark’s and finds the child to be a little witch, Kaitriana and he is enchanted with her cute possessiveness and likeness for spiders.

As the years go by, Lorcan and Kaitriana carry on and now Kaitriana is 12 years old. They are attending a party and Kaitriana is excited to see Lorcan. Kaitriana is going to her parents and two Darks have found their camp again. This time there is nobody to save them and Kaitriana is given the blood of a vampire. While lying there unable to move, she witnesses the murder of her parents. Her Grandfather comes and kills one of the Darks, but one escapes. Her Grandfather takes Kat to a safe place and is put to sleep for over 500 years.

Kat awakes and is hell bent on handing out revenge for the death of her parents. She destroys two Dark strongholds and then ends up at Lorcan’s gate. Once proving she is in fact Kaitriana that has been asleep for over 500 years and not dead, Lorcan takes her into his coven and swears to protect and train her.

As time continues, Kat is training and using her powers, now dubbed the Chosen, she is organising battles and the war with Lorcan; all the while trying to align the witches and the vampires of the Light. With each day Lorcan and Kat grow closer and they must work out what is best for the Realm together.

Chosen is a full on fantasy novel and chock-a-block full of action, intrigue, betrayal, loyalty, love, magic and intense romance. I really enjoyed the introduction into the Realm and the lives of Lorcan and Kaitriana. Kat is such a lovable character and added with the hotness of Lorcan, how could you go wrong. Following the life of Kat and discovering her potential of being the Chosen and how she has to help Lorcan accept his destiny. Definitely recommend to fantasy readers.

My Review

Wholly cow, I loved this book. It was such an enjoyable read with everything, fantasy, romance, action, intrigue, magic, witches and vampires and did I mention romance. This was more of an urban fantasy than book one, but I enjoyed Forsaken more than Chosen, but this whole series is going to be awesome. With each book you get a look into the lives of different characters, but they all tie in together and Kaitriana (the Chosen) is always at there as the Queen of Queens. Forsaken was fast paced with some very steamy romance scenes and a lot of intrigue.

Ella isn't your ordinary 26 year old, she is a witch and has been living in the human world most of her life. Her Mother was killed when she was younger and they were living in the Realm and Ella has no idea who her Father is. After her Mother dies Ella moves back to the human world. Grieving and trying to survive, Ella studies and works to make a life for herself. On celebrating the end of her studies, she goes out with friends for some drinks and fun. Sitting at the bar, Cole walks up and Ella knows immediately he is a vampire and a Dark. Cole is determined to get into her good graces with Ella and help her home (since she couldn't make it by herself). After succumbing to Cole’s charms and their instant attraction, Ella allows Cole to take her home and inside her apartment. Knowing it is dangerous, but also wanting a little action, Cole drives Ella mad with pleasure.

Cole (known in the Realm as Nicholas) has been watching Ella since she was a child. Knowing she is special and hoping to get Ella to want him and desire him, Cole is determined to leave Ella wanting him at every visit. He isn't divulging all of his life to her and known in the Realm as the Warrior of Dark, he is the fiercest and most feared vampire in the Dark legion.

The war between Light and Dark is coming to a head with the Chosen and the Warrior of Light attacking the Dark. Nicholas is called back to the Realm and Ella is taken into the Light coven. Kaitriana is helping Ella bring her powers to the surface and discover how much power she possesses.

All the time that Cole/Nicholas spent with Ella in the human world and he cannot stop thinking about her. They have discovered feelings for each other that shouldn't have grown. But can they be together, since they both come from opposite sides of the Realm? Will their love conquer? Can Cole/Nicholas or Ella convert to the other side? Who is Ella’s Father? Will Light prevail?

I really love this series and can’t wait for Broken. It is unique with witches, vampires and magic, plus the good versus evil war, but what is unique is the story and prophesy that still needs to be fulfilled. Both Chosen and Forsaken revolve around strong female characters, but they still have their vulnerability. With each page the characters evolve and grow into their potential. I loved the combination of Ella and Kaitriana in this book and Kaitriana’s querkyness that makes everybody smile. This is a must read!

WHOLLY COW! This is a fantastic book and I have discovered a new favourite author in Rebecca Trogner. The Last Keeper’s Daughter was a unique book with interesting twists and always kept me wanting more. I am extremely glad this is a series and cannot wait to see where the story goes in book two. The writing style of Ms Trogner has such an easy flow and the characters were very intriguing that I couldn't put it down.

My first impressions of this book were wow, so interesting and the prologue set everything up; explaining the title and where the characters come in.

Walter Ayres is the Keeper for King of the North American Vampire’s, Krieger Barnes. A Keeper is as the name suggests, keeper of secrets and history throughout the ages. With each generation of Keeper, it is the eldest son that all information and history is handed down. There is a society of Keeper’s around the world and they all communicate, sharing and helping one another. Searching for lost artefacts and keeping tabs on everything.

One night Walter went to Krieger and requested that he look after his daughter, Lily and protects her from harm. Walter is unwell and knows there is something going on that is dangerous. Walter is called away to England by another Keeper in search for a missing Keeper, Winston. It is all very mysterious and Krieger is intrigued enough to agree to protect Lily.

Lily has never really belonged anywhere. She is petite beautiful girl that hardly ever speaks. She is a highly unusual girl and doesn't really get along with Walter. Her Mother died during childbirth and Lily was raised by Martha, who is the estate caretaker of sorts.

Walter disappears and Lily believes he is on another of his trips. Not really knowing where or what he is doing, she carries on her normal life. A charity function is being held on her estate and during a walk, she falls down a set of stone steps. Krieger was never far away, always watching to make sure Lily was alright. He finds Lily broken and barely alive and his only way to keep his word to Walter is to share his blood with her. Magic healing didn't appear to work, perhaps Lily is not entirely human (?) and the blood is the only option.

Drinking Krieger’s blood has created a bond between the two and is highly irregular for Krieger to take a human and his subjects are curious as to why. Lily recovers from her injuries and feels drawn to Krieger; their bond is strong and their feelings of desire for each other are strong also.

Murder is committed and Lily seems stuck in the middle. Everybody appears drawn to her otherworldliness and Krieger is very protective. Lily is determined to discover who murdered the Keeper’s and why they keep disappearing.

A detective from England is brought in and told the secrets of the Other’s. He has never realised that Other creatures exist and that magic is real. Now trying to take in this new world and their customs, Hunter is trying to help Lily solve the murder.

Will Lily and Hunter discover who is the real murderer and why? What really happened to her Mother all those years ago? Can Lily and Krieger let their basic instincts go and be together in every way? What is Lily really, human, Other or both? Can Lily overcome her shyness and old habits to speak her mind and stick up for herself?

This book was so full of intrigue you couldn't help but be drawn in. The creatures and world building that Ms Trogner has created was unique and amazing to say the least. The book has everything from betrayal, mystery and magic, to romance, fantasy and Lily’s ability to become the woman we want her to be. I highly recommend this book to EVERYBODY, it was awesome. I really want book 2 right now, please!

Rebecca Trogner lives in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia, and frequently crosses the Blue Ridge Mountains that were the inspiration for Krieger’s home. She always dreamed of being a writer, but got sidetracked by the day-to-day adventures of life.
