COVER REVEAL: Landlocked by Tiffany Daune

Today I am helping to reveal the cover for Surface #2, Landlocked by Tiffany Daune. I read and reviewed Surface a couple of months ago for the tour and it was a great read. You can check out my review HERE! How fantastic is this cover.

Landlocked (Surface #2) by Tiffany Daune
Release Date: Summer 2013
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal

As if staying focused in trigonometry wasn't hard enough....Eerie visions are plaguing Theia's mind, driving her insane. Someone or something is reaching out to her, dragging her into a dark underwater world. And, to add to her metal delirium, she has no control over her newly awakened Siren senses. She thinks she can hear her cat's thoughts, she wants to pummel Sarah Collins, and she's trying to keep it together so she doesn't lose her scholarship. She needs someone who understands—someone bound to the ocean water she craves—she needs Luc. But contacting him is risky, and returning to the water a death sentence. She must find a way to harness her Siren senses even though the waves are calling to her. Denying her intended destiny may be the only way to stay alive.

About the Author

Tiffany Daune doesn't get why people want to grow up or why anyone would ever stop eating candy. Her purse is filled with books, lip gloss and a few pieces of Lego bricks. She writes best with a dish of chocolate chips on hand and finds licorice makes a better straw than plastic.

She lives on an island and believes mermaids may be raiding her candy stash, though she hasn't caught them, yet.

Surface is her first novel and pairs well with gummy sharks.

My Review

I really enjoyed reading Surface by Tiffany Daune. I haven’t read a mermaid book before, but have a few on my TBR list. I found the writing style to be fantastic and so easy to read that the pages turned by themselves. The beginning was extremely intriguing and held me captive until the end. I am definitely a new fan of Ms Daune’s and can’t wait for her next book, Landlocked in June 2013.

My first thought was “what is Theia?” Everything was happening and I was kept guessing until the story unfolded. Theia has no idea what she is or where she belongs and has been living a relatively normal life. Her Father died when she was little and Theia cannot remember him very well, but can always associate the water with him. She is always drawn to the water and has always been a part of the swim team at school.

Theia is kidnapped and dumped in the ocean. Struggling to stay afloat, she is yanked under the surface and is faced with a creature that is tearing her apart. Worried about sharks being attracted to her blood and these unknown strange creatures, Theia is resolved to dying. She is rescued and when she awakes, she’s in a strange environment. Luc rescued her and has been watching over her. He explains that Theia is below the surface and because she is breathing under the water that she is the same as him. But that’s not the case!

Theia is a SIREN! She is a forbidden creature and one that is in grave danger. There are so many secrets and people hiding that Theia has no idea who is a mermaid or a siren or something else. Luc tries to explain his world and what exactly Theia is supposed to be, but it isn’t pretty. The creatures that attacked her are known as mermaids; horribly scary and dangerous (remind me of the mermaids in the lake in Harry Potter). Luc is an Artagasian, a being that lives under the surface in a cave like community, but has a human body appearance. They are able to breathe in water, taking oxygen from the water itself.

The more time Luc and Theia spend together, they are extremely attracted and falling for each other. Forbidden love is what they have, but their love for each other has been written in the stars.

Can Theia make it back to the surface safe? What about her kidnappers, will they try again? Will she discover the truth about her parents and her life? Can Luc and Theia really love each other and be together?

There is so much to this book and it has everything you need for a fantastic series; intrigue galore, betrayal, love, secrets, hot boys, fun and mythical creatures. There are a lot of answers I am still chasing and I cannot wait for Landlocked to see what happens. What happened to Theia’s Mother during the kidnapping and why is everybody hiding the truth? This book was a great introduction to the series and the world of the Artagasian’s; with such a unique mermaid tale, you can’t go wrong.

Book Review: Madly by M Leighton

Goodreads Summary: Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

In order to save her home, the lives of her family, and all of humanity, Madly must learn to wield her exceptional powers and recapture the Lore before it’s too late and all is lost. But Madly’s only help are her two best friends and the Sentinel, Jackson Hamilton, that threatens both her heart and her destiny. Madly has loved Jackson as long as she can remember, but he is the one thing even a princess can’t have. Can she resist love to become the queen she was fated to be? Or can she find a way to have both?
This novelette introduces you to Madly and prepares you for the quest of a lifetime.

Challenge: TBR Pile Reading Challenge

I love Ms Leighton's writing style. After reading Down To You and as I already had this on my TBR list, I thought I would start this series. I realise now I should have started this a long time ago.

Even though this is a novelette, it still gives the reader an introduction into the life of Madly, a nearly eighteen year old that is a princess. Madly is attending school, has friends and does all the normal things, only she isn't normal, she is a mermaid.

During class, Madly feels pain, it doesn't make sense and she is goes to seek her parents and find out what is going on. Madly finds out that her parents are being held hostage.

A sentinel, Jackson, is assigned to protect Madly. He has known Madly since childhood and they seem drawn to each other, but don't want to acknowledge their feelings. The tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife, but this is only because Madly is betrothed to another.

Follow Madly's short introduction to find out who had kidnapped her parents and why. This is going to be a great series and I have already bought book 2 ready to delve into the action. The romance and adventure are just some of the great qualities this series will bring.

4 FUN BOOKS - A GREAT READ

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, M. Leighton, is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you'll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren't roaming in that direction, she'll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.

A note from Michelle: I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined. I'm convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace. I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.
