eBook Review: Brightest Kind of Darkness by P.T. Michelle

Goodreads Summary:  Nara Collins is an average sixteen-year-old, with one exception: every night she dreams the events of the following day. Due to an incident in her past, Nara avoids using her special gift to change fate…until she dreams a future she can’t ignore.
After Nara prevents a bombing at Blue Ridge High, her ability to see the future starts to fade, while people at school are suddenly being injured at an unusually high rate.
Grappling with her diminishing powers and the need to prevent another disaster, Nara meets Ethan Harris, a mysterious loner who seems to understand her better than anyone. Ethan and Nara forge an irresistible connection, but as their relationship heats up, so do her questions about his dark past.

Wow, what an original read and don't you love the cover! This was amazing, highly entertaining and mysterious.

Nara is a typical 16 year old, except for the fact that at night she dreams the events that will happen for the next day. One night she dreamt a bomb was in a school locker and who the culprit was. And for the first time Nara decided she was going to try to stop it from happening. She made an anonymous phone call to the police. Of course when she arrived at school the police were everywhere and the bomb found.

Since the bomb incident, everything has changed. On that fateful day another event happened that Nara didn't see coming. She met Ethan, the mysterious boy from school that nobody payed attention to and seemed oblivious to all. Ever since then, she hasn't been dreaming, so each day has been unpredictable or unknown to her.

Because Nara isn't dreaming, she isn't able to see how to save all the goals in her soccer matches. Enter Ethan! He helps Nara to play her games without using her dreams. Now Ethan and Nara are becoming closer and closer. Ethan has his own demons and seems to understand Nara better than she does herself. Can Nara get her dreams back? Stop her her school mates from getting hurt?

This is a great first book in the series and sort of reminds me of Final Destination. We get to know Nara and Ethan and how their relationship develops. How Nara manages to go through her daily routine from knowing every event to knowing nothing. This is fantastic and I can't put into words all the events that take place in this book. I highly recommend to all fantasy young adult readers. The next book in the series is Lucid and I can't wait to see what happens.

After reading The Light Tamer, I just had to start this series as well. Devyn's style of writing has drawn me in and I am now addicted to her books. The Legacy of Kilkenny is no exception and is a werewolf story like no other.

Abel is an ordinary 16 year old going to school, hanging with friends. One day a new girl starts and everybody is mesmerised by her. But Pru only has eyes for Abel. Over the days, they become good friends and all his school mates have no idea why Pru would be interested in Abel. As the days go on, Pru decides to tell Abel her secret and his as well. Abel is supposed to be the GREAT WOLF. The wolf that will bring all the clans together to unite against all others, as the prophecy claims.

Pru is the daughter of the Alpha and has been assigned to train Abel in all things wolf. Abel takes to it like a duck on water. Soon news of the Great Wolf's arrival travelled far and wide. The clan from Kilkenny decided to come and see for themselves and convince Abel to join their clan. Things are starting to get complicated and very dangerous. Abel's sister is causing heartache for Abel by hanging with the wrong crowd and she seems to be changing. Adding to Abel's already stressful life.

Murders have taken place and the Alpha is convinced it is Rogue wolves that are responsible. Danger is everywhere and Abel is still in training. Nobody is really sure what is going to happen. Can Abel become the Great Wolf in time? What about his feelings for Pru? Abel's sister, what is she going through? Will those responsible for the murders be found?

This takes you on the journey with Abel, training, school and the wolf life. It is a fantastic action packed fast adventure story and I had to get Malevolence, book 2 straight away.

eBook Review: Star Fire by Katie M John

Goodreads: Egypt changed them both in ways no one ever expected.
As murder and dark arts cast a terrible shadow over both The Real World and The Realm, Mina's connection to the mysterious Star Fire Sisterhood causes her to become The Templars' number one suspect.
Set amongst the snowy mountains of Switzerland and the ancient magical forests of of France, Blake and the House of Beldevier are given just one chance to save Mina's life - the recovery of The Holy Grail.
In this epic heart-racing finale, ancient myths come alive and old scores are settled. One thing is for sure ... the clock is ticking.

So this is the third and final installment in the series and I am sad to see it end. I loved this series, it was unique and I fell in love with The Realm, Mina and Blake. Everything was just so wonderfully written and described in detail you felt like you were sitting among the characters.

Mina and Blake returned from Egypt changed and both in different ways. Mina was inducted into the Star Fire Sisterhood and as such had to keep a deep dark secret from all. Blake never sleeps and Mina is worrying that something may be wrong.

A murder takes place and Mina being what she is, is taken into custody and taken to the Templars headquarters in Switzerland. Blake must find The Holy Grail in order to free Mina and takes Sam along on the quest. Meanwhile, Delta undertakes a quest of her own to hunt down Mina's demon and travels through her past to discover what a family really means.

Time is running out for Mina and the quests must end quickly. But will Blake be able to escape from Morgan with Sam and The Holy Grail? Can Delta destroy Mina's demon and free her from torment? Will love prevail?

What a perfect way to end the trilogy. All the questions a reader has is answered in the end. This story is full of love, action and mystery. The story is told perfectly, easy to read and keeps the reader sitting on the edge of your seat. Wish the series could have gone longer, it was so much fun to read.

eBook Review: The Light Tamer by Devyn Dawson

Goodreads:  Jessie's moved from New York to North Carolina one week after school lets out for summer break. Being a teen in a retirement area, is one more thing to add to her 'this sucks' list. It's bad enough to have to move, but even worse her alcoholic father left them as he went on a quest to be an artist in Greece.
Things begin to look up when she is reintroduced to Caleb, the dorky boy that saved her life one summer at the beach. Caleb is no longer scrawny and nerdy, he is now tall, dark and handsome. Caleb is a Light Tamer. Now, Jessie and Caleb must learn how to control the light...before they lose each other forever.
Jessie and Amber become fast friends. Amber is a no frills girl, her snarky comments and sassy attitude will raise a few eyebrows and have you laughing out loud. Amber is rough around the edges, a light tamer with only two years left to find the one she is bound to. Her father's surfing accident left her dad paralyzed and her brother dead.
This paranormal romance will keep you on the edge of your seat with humor, romance, and determination. Fall head over heels for Caleb and Jessie.

This is my first Devyn Dawson novel and it was great. This was a unique storyline for me and I found it very enjoyable and fast paced.

Jessie's alcoholic Father left them. Jessie's Mother couldn't handle things and they moved in with Jessie's Grandmother, Gayle. Gayle isn't your typical Grandmother and likes to be treated as a young hip woman. Spending the summer will drag on forever, so Jessie thinks. Until Gayle introduces Jessie to a friend from her childhood. Caleb! Caleb isn't what she remembers, not the geeky awkward boy from long ago. He is drop dead gorgeous and Jessie now feels like the awkward one. At first sight Jessie feels drawn to Caleb and lights start flickering. She finds this odd, but is too distracted with Caleb to think much of it.

It's not long before Jessie and Caleb realise they are meant to be. Next Caleb is explaining things to Jessie about being a Light Tamer. Jessie has to always carry a flashlight and beware of the Shadows, there are dark ones as there are light ones.

Caleb introduces Jessie to another Light Tamer, Amber. Amber is burdened with a Father that is disabled and a brother that had passed away. But Amber and Jessie become friends quickly and the three stick together like glue.

Can Caleb and Jessie learn how to use their powers and stay out of the shadows? Will the dark ones leave them alone? Can Amber find her true love before her time runs out?

This is a novel that keeps you guessing and has some unexpected paths along the way. I have fallen in love with Caleb and Jessie and cannot wait for Enlightened to be released this month.

eBook Review: Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan

Goodreads: Waverly and Kieran are finally reunited on the Empyrean. Kieran has led the boys safely up to this point, and now that the girls are back, their mission seems slightly less impossible: to chase down the New Horizon, and save their parents from the enemy ship. But nothing is truly as it seems…Kieran’s leadership methods have raised Seth’s hackles— and Waverly’s suspicions. Is this really her fiancé? The handsome, loving boy she was torn from just a short time before? More and more, she finds her thoughts aligned with Seth’s. But if Seth is Kieran’s Enemy No. 1, what does that make her?
In one night, a strange explosion rocks the Empyrean—shooting them off course and delaying their pursuit of the New Horizon—and Seth is mysteriously released from the brig. Seth is the most obvious suspect for the explosion, and Waverly the most obvious suspect for releasing him. As the tension reaches a boiling point, will Seth be able to find the true culprit before Kieran locks them both away—or worse? Will Waverly follow her heart, even if it puts lives at risk? With the balance of power precarious and the clock ticking, every decision counts… every step brings them closer to a new beginning, or a sudden end.

The continuation from Glow, the Empyrean is on course to catch the New Horizon. Waverly is back and is loaded down with guilt for leaving the parents behind. The girls and boys are forming groups, pro Kieran, pro Waverly or just unsure. Kieran is forcing their hand and demanding them to attend service. Kieran's leadership is questioned and an election is to take place for all the leadership rolls including the council.

Since Kieran has placed Seth in the brig, all Seth can think about is escaping. One day all of a sudden, there is an explosion and the cell doors are unlocked. Seth escapes and finds one of his mates in the hallway dead. Who has killed their crew mate? Why would somebody risk such a horrible act to free Seth? Seth doesn't question his freedom too much and takes advantage of being free. He is determined to clear his name, but has to keep hidden for fear of going back in the brig. Waverly visited Seth in the brig and knows he isn't as guilty as Kieran makes out. Seth goes to Waverly for help and they soon become close friends.

Seth soon discovers that it wasn't a member of the Empyrean that set off the explosion, which means somebody else did!

Kieran has started negotiating terms with New Horizon and secrets are being discovered that Kieran would never have dreamt of.

Who is the saboteur that has put the Empyrean off course? What secrets does Kieran discover? Will they get their parents back from the New Horizon?

The twists and turns in this book only add to the mystery and lures the reader in even more. This is a great series and the next book will be very interesting as to what will happen to the Empyrean ship and the repairs. Flame, book 3 is due out June 2013.

eBook Review: Desired (Vampire Journals #5) by Morgan Rice

Desired (The Vampire Journals #5)Desired by Morgan Rice
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Another good addition to the series.  The story is continuing with the search for the Shield and Caitlin's father.

Caitlin again travels back in time in search for her father and the ever elusive Shield that will save all Vampires.  Caitlin has gone back a couple years to 1789.  She finds Caleb and everything seems perfect until Caleb receives a message.  Off he goes and Caitlin is left alone and hurting.

Caitlin begins the search again and off on another treasure hunt.  Going from beautiful church and scenery to beautiful church, all set in Paris.  Will Caitlin find the Shield and her Father?  What will happen with Caleb?  Will Sam, her brother find true love and the Shield?

The descriptions and amazing detailing involved in the book is the best part.  Morgan has such vivid details and Caitlin is only building her character with every Journal.

Next is Betrothed #6. Betrothed

Graphic Novel Review: Vampire Academy (Graphic Novel #1) by Richelle Mead

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy: The Graphic Novel, #1)Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved this version of Vampire Academy.  I am officially a fan of Graphic Novels and can't get enough.  This one in particular was awesome, full of beautifully illustrated action scenes and told the story to a T from the original book.

Rose is a Dhampir, not human, but not vampire (Moroi) either.  A perfect mixture of both that can protect the vampires once she graduates into Guardian status.  This starts with Rose and her best friend Lissa (a Moroi)on the run.  Rose thinks she is protecting Lissa, but they are found and made to return to St Vladimir's Academy.

Rose is trying to work out what Lissa's actual abilities are and how she is connected to her.  All the while, Lissa is being attacked and ridiculed and Rose wants it to stop.

Of course there is Dimitri also.  He is so very handsome in this graphic novel and is the beginning of the forbidden love between Dimitri and Rose.

Awesome, I highly recommend this to all Vampire Academy fans.  A must have and a perfect addition into the Vampire Academy series.

Can't wait for number 2: Frostbite : The Graphic Novel
