Book Review: Breathe by Abbi Glines

Goodreads Summary: Sadie White's summer job isn't going to be on the beach life-guarding or working at rental booths like most kids her age. With her single mother's increasing pregnancy and refusal to work, Sadie has to take over her mother's job as a domestic servant for one of the wealthy summer families on a nearby island.
When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie hadn't spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house she might have been normal enough to be excited about working for a rock star.
Even though Sadie isn't impressed by Jax's fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax but he fights his attraction. Relationships never work in his world and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. By the end of the summer, Jax discovers he can't breathe without Sadie.

Title: Breathe

I have decided I am another one of Abbi Gline’s biggest fans. Breathe is another awesome read by Ms Glines and it certainly is an addictive one as well. The writing style is fantastic and so easy to read that you don’t even notice how fast you’re turning the pages. Being book one in the series, it was a great introduction to all the characters, but of Sadie and Jax in particular.

Sadie has had a tough life, being a teenager of a woman that doesn't want to grow up or take responsibility for her own life or her daughter is never easy. They moved to Alabama for a fresh start and got more than they bargained for. Sadie has had to be the adult and now that her Mother is pregnant to some low life man, it is even worse. Sadie doesn't make friends and just wants to be invisible. Her Mother is beautiful and always tells Sadie how plain she appears, but that is only because she doesn't want to become like her Mother.

Sadie was to help her Mother work over the summer, but her Mother just couldn't be bothered. Sadie at the last minute had to rush to her Mother’s work and try to be hired as her replacement (otherwise they were in trouble). Sadie rocks up to her Mother’s workplace, an enormous mansion on the island. She is allowed entrance and talks her way in to being put on trial. Of course Sadie is a hard worker and everything goes smoothly until she finds out that family returns to the summer house and it is the infamous rock star Jax Stone.

Sadie not being the typical teenage girl takes it all in her stride; she just tries to ignore the fact that she is working for the most famous teenage rock star in America. Jax on the other hand is confused why a teenage girl has been allowed to work in his residence. Usually they’re not allowed because of the fact all his groupies try to attack him.

Right from the get go, Jax is attracted to Sadie. She has a beauty that is untouched and seems mature for her age. As time progresses, Jax and Sadie see each other around the estate and Jax seems to be protective of her. They both know that nothing can ever happen between them because they are from different worlds. The deal was they would hang together over the summer and then go their separate ways. But things get more serious as time goes on.

Can Jax and Sadie be together forever or is it just a summer fling? How will Sadie and her Mother cope with a new baby? What about all the Hollywood photos of Jax with famous women, can Sadie overcome her jealousy?

This is such an emotional rollercoaster for Sadie and you can’t help but feel for her and despise her Mother. I was in tears near the end; it was such an in-depth read and I had to grab Because Of Low straight after. It’s ready to go and hopefully I can read it next week. This is an awesome series and another great hit from Ms Glines.

About the Author

Abbi Glines can be found hanging out with rockstars, taking out her yacht on weekends for a party cruise, sky diving, or surfing in Maui. Okay maybe she needs to keep her imagination focused on her writing only. In the real world, Abbi can be found hauling kids (several who seem to show up that don’t belong to her) to all their social events, hiding under the covers with her MacBook in hopes her husband won’t catch her watching Buffy on Netflix again, and sneaking off to Barnes and Noble to spend hours lost in the yummy goodness of books. Her debut novel, BREATHE, can be found in digital format at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Existence, a YA paranormal, was released December 13, 2011 by Wild Child Publishing. WWW Wednesdays #12

Hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions....

* What are you currently reading?
* What did you recently finish reading?
* What do you think you'll read next?

I didn't get to post a WWW last week, obviously it was Christmas, but I'm back to it this week. Hope everybody had a fabulous Christmas and New Year's. I have changed my blog design also, thanks to Parajunkee Designs. What do you think?

What are you currently reading? Supernatural Freak by Louisa Klein ~ this is an urban fantasy read, I'm currently around 25% and still haven't gotten to the guts of the story yet. This was a review request direct from the author for a tour.

What did you recently finish reading? Revealing Eden by Victoria Foyt, Breathe (Sea Breeze #1) by Abbi Glines and Elemental Explosions (The Alchemists Academy #2) by Kailin Gow. These were all fantastic reads and all totally different genres. Revealing Eden seems to be a little controversial, but was a great read, YA Fantasy Romance; Breathe is of course a contemporary romance by Abbi and another great one, can't wait to read Because of Low (book #2); Elemental Explosions was for a tour and fantastic series that's MG Fantasy adventure and lost of fun.

What do you think you'll read next? This is a tough one, I have been reading what I feel like lately and still haven't gotten around to reading Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken yet. But depending on time I would love to start Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines and Scent of Magic by Maria V Snyder. But at this stage, it's anybody's guess.

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your WWW Wednesdays post or share your answers in a comment here (if you don't have a blog). THANKS!

Title: The Vincent Brothers

Please note this is not the NEW and UNCUT version.

**Please be aware there is spoilers for The Vincent Boys**

I loved this one just as much as The Vincent Boys. The Vincent Boys was an introduction into the life of Sawyer and Beau Vincent with Beau being in the spotlight more so than Sawyer. But The Vincent Brothers is a spotlight more so on Sawyer. Abbi Glines is a magician, just as I said in my review for book 1. This is the original version and I just loved the fast pace storyline with twists and turns along the way.

Sawyer Vincent is still coming to terms with losing the love of his life to his brother; even though he knows that Beau would never ever betray him if it wasn't real love. But that doesn't make the hurt any less painful, especially having to witness the love every day. Sawyer isn't himself and has decided the only way to take away the pain for a little while is to resort to drinking alcohol. It appears to everybody that Sawyer has turned into the bad boy Beau since the break-up.

Ash is still in la-la land and loving every minute she spends with Beau. This summer is going to be the best before everybody goes off to college. Ash’s cousin Lana is coming to stay for the summer too, she is trying to escape her now divorced Mother’s bitter tirades and to enjoy life. She has changed her image, her attitude and decided that this is her last chance to be noticed by boys; with one boy in particular in mind.

Lana goes to the Field party with Ash and is excited to see Sawyer again. Sawyer thinks Lana could be a great distraction from the hurt that Ash has caused and decides to start spending time with Lana. Every time he is with Lana, Ash doesn't even enter his mind. Lana doesn't know if Sawyer is spending time with her just to make Ash jealous or because he generally is attracted to her.

There is a tug of war of emotions in this book and nothing is set in stone. There is questionable behaviour from Beau which causes trouble for Sawyer and Ash and Lana is turned inside out. Will Lana ever get to be happy? Can somebody actually put her first? Will Sawyer be able to love somebody that isn’t Ash? Will Ash ever not be the centre of the Vincent Boys?

This is awesome! I wish there were more books coming to this story; I just loved the Vincent boys. In the first book, I was all Beau, but now having actually been inside Sawyers head, it is hard to be in love with just one of the Vincent Boys, I am torn between the two. The characters evolve with great intensity and the emotions that come out of the book will have you laughing, crying and OMGing along with Lana. After I finished reading this one, I had to purchase more books by Abbi Glines, I am now one of her biggest fans.

Title: The Vincent Boys (NEW AND UNCUT)
Series: The Vincent Boys #1
Author: Abbi Glines
Publisher: Hot Key Books
Release Date: First published 11th October 2011 - revised NEW and UNCUT version published 12th November 2012
Format: Kindle
Source: Bought

WOW, where have I been and why haven’t I read this earlier. I couldn’t put this one down. I had seen this around the blogosphere for a while and decided to buy it. Thought I would give it a try in between reading review books and I have been blown away. Mind you, this is the UNCUT version that I picked up without realising. Abbi Glines is a magician; her writing style and characters are addictive and I instantly fell in love with Beau. **sigh**

Beau and Sawyer Vincent are cousins that have grown up together. Have forever been best friends and team mates and also the best friends of Ashton Gray. Meeting Ashton when they were just five years old, they all rambled around the town and into mischief together. The three were always joined at the hip and taking care of one another. Until things started to change, they grew older and the boys noticed that Ashton was changing; she was changing into a GIRL.

When they were fourteen, Sawyer built up his courage and asked Ashton to be his girlfriend. They have been together now for 3 years. BUT, Sawyer has gone away on a family vacation into the mountains. Phone reception and computer internet services are questionable at best and Ashton is left to her own devices. Ashton keeps running into Beau, since Sawyer and Ashton became an item, he was left out of the loop and they haven’t spoken since.

Now for some reason, Ashton has taken it upon herself to make friends with Beau once again and make things right. She remembers all the fun and good times they all had together and wants that back. Beau keeps testing her boundaries and causing Ashton to have little tingling’s and heart thrashing moments. He wants to test Ashton to see what her true feelings are. With each visit, their feelings return and they find they need to find ways to see each other.

What will happen when Sawyer returns? Small towns always have gossip, what is everybody saying about Beau and Ashton being seen together? Being the Preacher’s daughter, what will good girl Ashton get up to? Who will win the heart of Ashton in the end?

This book took me on a journey of an emotional discovery. I was crying with Ashton; laughing with Ashton and oohing and aahing over Beau. It travels through the teenage heart with self-discovery, hard life decisions, loyalty and betrayal. I fell so hard for this book that I had to buy The Vincent Brothers and start it straight after. Please note though, that the UNCUT version does have a few scenes with sexy detailing that would be aimed at the more mature young adult. Any-who, highly recommend to all romance readers.
