The world that Patti creates is unbelievable and I can’t wait for more when Progeny of Innocence is released.  The Angels Are Here isn’t long enough to quench my thirst from this story.  Another great aspect is that it is set in Australia, nothing like a home grown book.

Grace is a child that has the perfect family and has an ability to see Angels.  She goes to ballet lessons one day under protest and in her reflection of the car window sees another child looking back.  Hope is her savior and allows Grace some happiness and gives her confidence to enjoy her childhood.  Everything was going along smoothly; every day had a routine, until she arrives home from school to find her world torn apart.  Grace is also starting to have visions and nightmares.  These visions make Grace faint and she is taken into another time and place in the past.  She relives previous lives and her demise.  This is something no child should endure, but Grace accepts what it is and tries to move on with her life.  She doesn’t make friends easily and when she tells Hope to leave, Angela steps in.  Angela is still getting used to being a child again; Grace accepts the things Angela says as just being funny, but what is really behind Angela’s old soul comments?  Is she sent to protect Grace or destroy her?  Why is Grace having these visions?  Is she in danger and if so, from what?

I loved this book and really became addicted to it.  When Grace's life is torn apart, I was crying along with her.  Patti has a gift that allows the readers to live the lives with her characters.  I really would have liked it to be longer and thankfully I will not have to wait much longer for book 2.  Highly recommend to all paranormal romance and fantasy lovers.

Paradox - Progeny of Innocence is due for release November 2011, thank goodness.  You can find Patti Roberts on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, Amazon and blog.

5 EXPLOSIONS - AWESOME MUST READ

eARC Review: Zachary Pill, the Dragon at Station End by Tim Greaton

Goodreads: Having spent his life pretty much like every other loser kid in the world, Zachary Pill is shocked when a swarm of bats invade his Boston apartment and take his father away. Forced to move to New Hampshire with crazy Madame Kloochie, Zachary soon learns that cleaning her filthy house is the least of his problems. When the evil wizard Krage sends creatures to kill him, Zachary tries to defend himself with the magical items his father left behind, but after accidentally getting poisoned by a dragon and getting his friend turned into a werewolf, he realizes that he is in way over his head. Flying snakes, mysterious shadow hags, orcs and trolls are all after both boys and the beautiful young thief next door as they struggle to stay alive long enough to save the kidnapped little boy next door.

Title: Zachary Pill, The Dragon at Station End
Author: Tim Greaton
Publisher: Focus House - July 2011
Series: Zachary Pill #1
Format: Kindle eBook
Source: Publisher via Kindle Book Review

WOW, I don’t know where to begin.  This book was amazing.  Harry Potter meets How to train your Dragon.  Loved the story and the world that is created within it, so many levels and creatures and Tim’s imagination is just out of this world…..

Zachary Pill is a normal kid, or so everybody thinks.  He gets bullied at school and one day has had enough.  Zachary saw another kid being picked on and decided to stand up for him and himself.  This is the day everything changes.  Zachary started to fight back, literally and ended up with a broken arm and bruising all over.  His father was called to school and demanded that Zachary not be taken to the hospital.  The School was dumbfounded, why would a father not allow his child to go to the hospital?  Well, there is a family secret that has been hidden from Zachary; he is a Wizard, well half Wizard.  Zachary was taken to a special hospital, where wizards and creatures and beasts go, he was patched up and his arm put in plaster.  Everything would be normal again, or will it?  Nope, when they arrive home, his father is vague and wouldn’t answer his questions.  Eating spaghetti for dinner, Zachary looks at his father’s plate and sees worms instead of pasta.  Surely Zachary was just imagining things because of his injury.  Everything went into chaos, bats swarmed the apartment and everything went dark.  Zachary could only use his one arm to find his father.  There was a brilliant blue light and his father disappeared. Poof, gone!

Zachary is now on a journey to find his father, calls in his Uncle who palms Zachary off onto an old woman that lives in a pigsty, Madame Kloochie.  His Uncle too disappears in search for his father.  Zachary befriends the kid from across the road, Bret.  Together they try to work through his father’s belongings and a way to find his father.  Zachary is the last Pill on Earth and is being attacked by all sorts of monsters.  He must survive and find his father and Uncle.

This is quite a long book, but the story is just amazing and I couldn't put it down.  Tim really knows how to draw you into the book and I know there will be a lot of Harry Potter fans that will love it.  There are just so many amazing things happening that you will have to read it for yourself (the nostrils for example, a travelling tunnel system, hilarious but gross).  I can't wait for Zachary's next adventure.

You can find more on Zachary Pill and Tim Greaton on Twitter, Goodreads, Amazon, Facebook and blog.

ARC Book Review: The Secret Ingredient by Dianne Blacklock

Title: The Secret Ingredient
Author: Dianne Blacklock
Publisher: Pan Macmillan Australia
Published: 1st November 2011
Type: ARC Paperback
Pages: 385
Source: Pan Macmillan Australia

Synopsis not available on Goodreads yet.  The below synopsis was received via Press Release from Pan Macmillan Australia.

Taste was such an evocative sense; Andie had closed her eyes, with the scone melting in her mouth, and been transported back to her grandmother's kitchen....

Nourishment is nurture. That's what Andie learned from her grandmother and what she's always believed about cooking. But somehow, since marrying Ross, she's allowed her love of food to take a back seat and given up her dream of becoming a chef.

Lately she's been craving more. And when her marriage falls apart, she's determined to find herself again and take back control of her destiny.

The first step is taking a job in the kitchen of renowned chef Dominic Gerou. The brooding Englishman is more than Andie bargains for, but the new Andie is ready for anything, even a bad-tempered chef who makes it clear he won't tolerate mistakes.

In this beautiful new novel, Dianne Blacklock takes us on a sumptuous journey of the heart as Andie uncovers the secret ingredient for her new life, and shows that no matter how many false starts you may have, if you hold on to your passion and your dreams, anything is possible.

MY REVIEW

This is my first novel by Dianne Blacklock and I loved it.  Dianne is an Australian author and this book is set in Sydney, Australia.  Andie is in her thirties, just discovering that she can still reach for her dreams and make them happen.

Andie married a man quite older than herself and being a chef didn't fit into their lifestyle, so Andie didn't follow her dreams when she was married.  Getting itchy feet, she wanted something new and her husband bought her a gourmet delicatessen, since she was so interested in food.  The Deli was great, but it still didn't allow her to create and cook her own food, her dream was to become a chef.

Through her husbands contacts, Andie was given a trial in a kitchen with a three-hat chef, Dominic Gerou.  Andie was nervous, but confident at the same time.  It had been 10 years since being in a professional kitchen and she was hoping that her skills would come back to her in the kitchen.  Having to de-bone a chicken, it all fell apart, Andie had no idea what she was doing and ran out like a little school girl. This was the night everything fell apart.  Everything she had known for the past 10 years no longer existed.

One day, Andie decided to take her life back and went back to Dominic to ask for another chance.  Andie was heading up the chef ladder in leaps and bounds only to be knocked down again when family trouble erupted.

This is a pure romance novel, with everything included.  I cried, laughed and became enraged with Andie following along with her life.  Dianne really knows how to draw the reader in and become apart of the story. I  haven't had the honor to read any of Dianne's other books, but I certainly will be adding them to my list now.  The Secret Ingredient was wonderful and shows that everybody can reach for their dreams, no matter when in life they are.  Highly recommend to all romance enthusiasts.

My rating 4 explosions - definitely worth reading

Ebook Review: Sam, the Strawb Part by Scott Bury

Sam, the Strawb PartSam, the Strawb Part by Scott Bury
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a beautifully written children’s book.  Loved the story and can really see the children getting into it.  Their imaginations are fantastic and I am sure there will be a lot of children pretending to be Sam, the Strawb Part.

Sam is a young boy whom loves strawberries and uses his wits and cunning to steal strawberries from unsuspecting mothers at the grocery store.  Because of his appearance they feel for Sam and hand over their strawberries.  The East Canada Fruit (Fool) Company is not impressed and hires a pirate to capture and stop Sam from stealing all the strawberries.  This is where the adventure begins.  The chase sets off around the country and Sam is always one step ahead.

This is Robin Hood meets Pirates of the Caribbean for a children’s book.  Fantastic and another fantastic fact is that all proceeds of this book goes to charity, Children at Risk, a registered charity that supports families and children with autism spectrum disorders.  What a wonderful cause, so please help support and read this lovely story.

Graphic Novel Review: This Haunted World by Mark Powers

This Haunted WorldThis Haunted World by Mark Powers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another big thank you to Sea Lion Books for sending this issue to me for review.
Being the first issue, everything is a little intriguing and new. The graphics are fantastic and the storyline is just beginning. What a way to start the series.
Daniel is being held in prison because his finger prints have been found in more than one crime scene. He is ghost hunter and is trying to make a break through, but got caught instead.
Things are getting strange and Daniel wakes in his cell. Everybody is dying and he doesn't know why.
In a museum a bomb is detonated and terrorists are to blame. But it isn't a person responsible, it's being haunted.
Can't wait to read the next installment to see where it goes.

Ebook Review: Goddess of the Sea by P C Cast

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Goddess Summoning books by PC Cast are a light entertaining read.  Needed something easy to read and this was just perfect.  As with all the Goddess Summoning books, this one is about a mortal woman being transferred into the immortal world.

Goddess of the Sea, as the name suggest is about sea creatures and in particular Mermaids and Mermen.  Christine or CC is in the Air Force and has been called to duty.  She must fly across the globe to her destination and CC does not like flying (understandable).  CC turns 25 and everybody forgets her birthday, unhappy about this she decides to have a fun night by herself.  She drinks 2 bottles of champagne, eats a bucket of fried chicken and decides to cast a spell to wish for magic in her life.  Unbeknownst to CC, the Goddess Gaea is listening.

The next few days CC goes about her routine preparing for her trip.  On the place her nerves escalate and a Captain befriends her and helps calms her nerves.  Something goes wrong and CC finds herself in the water, the next thing she is being dragged down into the depths and thinks she is going to die.

A beautiful mermaid puts a protective bubble around them and CC's soul is switched into the mermaids body.  She is transported back into the medieval times and the Mermaid in CC's body has taken over her life in the current time.

CC doesn't know what is happening.  To help protect CC, the Goddess Gaea shows herself and casts a spell, CC will become human, but every 3rd night must return to the sea and change into her mermaid body.  The only way to break the spell is to find true love.....

CC has the trials of being back in medieval times, no plumbing, women are regarded as possessions and not to be seen or heard.  CC befriends the women on the island and they help her cope with the changes.  CC must decide whom her heart belongs to and what her future holds.

This book was a delight.  An easy romance with mermaids, mermen and knights in shining Armour.  Recommend to all romance lovers, another great read from PC Cast.

Graphic Novel Review: Pariah issue #4 by Aron Warner

Aron Warner's Pariah issue #4Aron Warner's Pariah issue #4 by Aron Warner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thank you to Sea Lion Books for allowing me to review this next issue of Pariah.

This issue follows Franklin Hyde and his back story.  It explains why he has gotten all the Vitro's together and his ultimate plan to  make everybody happy.

Franklin was locked away because his parents are in the political arena and they were concerned about their image of having a vitro son.  in the end this turned him against them and gave him the reason to leave.

This issue was excellent, Franklin appeared in the previous issues and it was great to know his story and what the plan was.  If only everything goes to plan.....

Can't wait to read the next issue.

Book Review: Dreamland by Alyson Noel

Dreamland (Riley Bloom, #3)Dreamland by Alyson Noel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Type: Paperback (180 pages)
Series: Book 3 in Riley Bloom
Source: Pan MacMillan Australia

This was another delightful read by Alyson Noel.  A great follow on from Shimmer and I found I enjoyed this one more so than the first 2.

Riley is coming off a high from rescuing so many souls and has to front the Council.  As she didn't follow orders, she is worried she may be getting in trouble and not receiving praise.

Being ordered to take time off again, Riley doesn't know what to do or where to go.  She heard of a place where she can visit her sister, Ever, in her dreams and wanted to give it a try and sort out her problems with her sister's help.  Found a nice old man that had been to Dreamland and would take her along.  It follows Riley learning the process of how to dream jump and all the people and items involved.

Riley has to learn more things about herself before she can progress in the Here and Now.  She doesn't understand why she can't be 13 and wants to succeed and win everything in order to please the Council to jump ahead.

This was a great read and recommend to all who love Alyson Noel's previous books.

A very big thank you to Pan MacMillan Australia for sending me this copy of Dreamland for review.

Other books in this series are Book 1 Radiance and Book 2 Shimmer and the 4th Book will be Whisper which is due out April 2012.

This book is so very beautifully illustrated it takes you along for a ride with Sam on his skateboard.

Sam is a young boy who loves his skateboard.  This story allows the child to see the daily routine of Sam, from getting dressed in the morning, breakfast and taking off on his skateboard for the skate park.  He has fun, but returns at the end of the day to have dinner and go to bed.

My son loved this one and all the great colours in the illustrations.  The rhyming story was fantastic and caught his attention.  Overall a fantastic read for the children.

My Rating: 5 STARS

This book is from Australian author Ross Collier.  One of the things I loved about it, was the location.  AUSTRALIA, Melbourne and of course being in Melbourne at this minute, loved all the terminology and locations throughout.

Meet Harry Gordon, an ex-football star and an ex-merchant banker!  He had to take over the family business when his Father passed away.  Gordon Steel is a supplier to the building industry and this book follows all the trials and tribulations that follows running a business based on tender applications.

Poor Harry gets a phone call early one morning from a work colleague to say a worker has been found dead in the office.  This is where it all starts….  Who killed poor old Edna??  Was it another employee or somebody with ulterior motives?

Harry likes puzzles and when his old football coach asks for Harry to check up on his daughter, he can’t refuse.  The only problem is that Rebecca is his ex-girlfriend.  Harry gets involved in helping Rebecca sort out her life as well.  Poor Harry!

With each chapter the plot thickened and the stories evolved.  I couldn’t put it down, it was so addictive and I wanted to find out what happened to Harry in the end.  This book has it all, non-stop action, suspense, intrigue and even love.  A must read for those who love suspenseful thrillers.

You can find Ross at Goodreads, Amazon, Twitter, Facebook or his website.  Other books in Ross' collection include The Fenians and coming soon Tug of War.

I am very glad that this will be a 4 book series.  The first book in the series introduces us to Kendra.  Kendra is a 17 year old ondine, a descendent from Dessondines, water creatures.

Kendra was living in the human world, when things go wrong, she is taken to the ondine community of Harverleau, where she can learn to harness her abilities and her destiny.  Kendra is accustomed to starting a new school, as she had to move around a lot, so this one was no different.  With all schools there is a hierarchy and Kendra quickly works out where she is in the order.  Kendra makes friends quickly, but enemies even quicker.

Kendra is attractive, she draws a lot of attention because of her beauty, but also because she is the prophesised saviour to her kind.  Kendra doesn’t want to believe she is this ONE, but none the less, has to face the music and accept her responsibilities.  Kendra causes trouble wherever she goes and doesn’t like being taken care of.  She believes she can take care of herself without anybodies help.  One of her protectors is Tristan, Kendra can’t seem to keep her mind out of the gutter when he is around her.  Then there is Ryder and Julian and a whole lot of other boys that just can‘t help but want her.

This book has non-stop action, love and an amazing world that has never been seen before.  The issues that Kendra has to face are quite realistic in terms of teenage angst and rebellion, excluding the special abilities of course.  I absolutely loved this book and was blubbering at the end.  I am totally addicted to this series and cannot wait for book 2, Billow.  Highly recommend to everyone.
